( Reading Time – Approximately Four To Five Minutes ).
If you have checked out my website and read some of the web pages on it, then you can see that I appear to be making a lot of claims about how good my book is for your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
And I can hear many of you say, “Well I have heard that before and it turned out to be just another rip off! A waste of my hard earned money and valuable time.”
I too, have been taken in by fantastical claims and been scammed more than a few times in my life. Particularly by junk I came across on the internet. Indeed our Western culture has become plagued with intricate and sophisticated ways of selling junk to the consumer.
Hopefully, (if you are weary and not trusting of me yet), after reading my blog for a little while, you will start to be convinced as to just how clever Chinese Medicine and Eastern philosophies are. How beneficial they can be to improving your health and your life. You will also start to notice that I personally do seem to have a talent which allows me to effectively communicate these great ideas across to my audience in a very straightforward and easy to understand manner.
These methods and perspectives truly had a remarkable impact on my life and I live by them now. However, I always keep my mind open and if something is proven wrong or something more insightful comes alone, then I would not allow my ego to ignorantly reject it, but will instead readily adopt it into my life. It is very important always to have both an open and inquisitive mind. I don’t believe that any one human being or system on this Earth is always entirely correct and has all the answers.
My philosophy is simply to do what works best. And after my many years of experiences of both Western and Eastern medicines, science and philosophies, I have come to the conclusion that those ancient Eastern methods and deep understandings developed through thousands of years of thought, theory and real empirical scientific evidence are still truly the best ways for us to lead healthy, fulfilling and happy lives.
This is in no way disrespectful to modern science or scientists. I am fully supportive of anyone who thinks deeply and makes it their passion to discover how things work and come about in our world.
That is why, when I wrote my book, I made sure to back up the Eastern principles with Western scientific studies and statistics. As a result, there are over 200 studies, mainly from the most recognized and respected Western hospitals, universities, scientific and medical journals, referenced in the book. Quite a sizeable amount I am sure you will agree.
However, don’t believe that this book is any way just a rehash of typical medical and general advice. When you read it you will see many of the theories and principles in the book are widely differing from the standard advice given to us in the West.
How can this be so? I hear you ask. Surely this is contradictory. How can Western science be backing up Chinese Medicine and not mainstream Western Medicine?
Well for a number of reasons real proven science has significantly departed from commercial science, which is what we are given and is used to sell medicine in the health industry in the West.
During the time I spent writing the book, I was overwhelmed by the number of great studies by highly respectable Western scientists and doctors which were contradictory to the commercially sponsored studies which are promoted on the news, in the media, in the health industry and given as unquestionable advice to the public.
There are many reasons why this occurs, I will discuss just two here.
Sometimes the cause is simply that pride and ego are encouraging some people to back up their viewpoints at any cost because they have been groomed by a society that thrives not off the betterment of mankind, but off personal competition, ego and success by any means possible.
However the main reason this occurs is purely greed. In my opinion, if there are actions people can take to improve their health and treat their own illness that does not cost money and therefore does not make others wealthy from their ills, then these principles and methods (fully backed by modern science) are shoved under the carpet and not given to the people.
Western medicine is a business, although it often tries to portray itself as otherwise. One thing it clearly is not, is a charity. Western hospitals, pharmaceutical corporations and even some doctors and scientists are out to make profits at every available opportunity. Unfortunately some of them appear to be more than willing to do this at the expense of your health and happiness.
In the year 2007, 2.1 trillion dollars was spent on the medical system in the United States. It is estimated that 95 % of that figure was spent on treating disease after it had occurred and only 5 % was spent on awareness and campaigns to prevent illness. If there was a sincere and not financial interest in genuinely preventing disease then the actual figures for the amount of money spent on health enhancement and the prevention of illnesses would far outweigh the amount currently being spent on disease care.
(Having said all that, please do note this is a generalization on the state of the Western medical industry and is not an attack on those who work in the health system. Many of whom are good, honest and caring individuals, who like myself, just want to earn a reasonable living and make the world a better place for us all to live in).
So the next time you hear a claim on the mainstream media about how great a certain new drug is, then think a little more deeply about the motivation of the science that may be behind it.
The next time you feel sick, you go to your doctor and the only treatment he offers you is drugs, which can have serious side effects. Then that might be the time to educate yourself in how you can play a major part in treating that illness, at no cost to you other than a bit of your time and effort.
Or better still start investing a little of your time and learn all you can about your health now so you don’t get sick in the first place.
Next blog – In my next blog I will be providing a prime example about how greed in the health industry has misled real Western and Eastern sciences regarding the treatment and prevention of prostate cancer.
