The Professor’s Coffee …

( Reading Time – Approximately One To Two Minutes )

A clever tale to think about …

A group of friends, who were all highly established in their careers, got
together to visit their wise old professor. The conversation soon turned
into complaints about stress in their work and social lives.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to his kitchen and returned with a
large pot of it and an assortment of cups. There were porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and even some expensive and exquisite ones.

He suggested they help themselves to some of the hot coffee.

When all his ex-students had a cup of coffee in their hand, the professor said:

“If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving
behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that too is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was the coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and were eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is the coffee; then the jobs, money and position in society are
the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to taste and enjoy the coffee in it.”

How Internal Heat Is The Cause Of Many Ailments (Part 3 of 3) …

( Reading Time – Approximately Four To Five Minutes ).

You can find the first part of this series here –

So far we have talked about how internal heat can damage your body and the types of symptoms to look for to show that your body is overheating. In this last part of the series, I will tell you some of the things you can do to reduce the levels of heat, and to bring your body and mind back into a more harmonious and healthy state.

Firstly let’s look at three of the most common ways which lead to the body overheating and causing problems on the inside; in areas like the brain, organs and tissues …
1) Diet – Heat can come about through the consumption of two different flavors of food. They are spicy and sweet foods. Continue reading

How Internal Heat Is The Cause Of Many Ailments (Part 2 of 3) …

( Reading Time – Approximately Seven To Nine Minutes ).

In this update you will find a list of common symptoms and ailments that are
usually evolved from an overall pattern of excessive heat inside the organs and
cells of the body.

When you are dealing with a body that has become out of balance, then do remember that it is unlikely you would get all of these symptoms. You may just have a few of them.

Many of these symptoms may also come from causes other than excessive internal heat. So to establish if they are likely to have been caused by heat, look for multiple signs of your system generally overheating.

With the big patterns, all you are trying to do is establish where your body type is generally. Such as, is it an overheated system or is it too cold? Is it too dry or is it too damp? And so forth.

Also please note that due to the limitations of a blog, this is just a short description of likely heat related symptoms. If you require a more in depth list and fuller explanation of hese symptoms then you can find them in my book or by consulting a practitioner of Eastern Medicine.

So here they are, heat symptoms … Continue reading

How Internal Heat Is The Cause Of Many Ailments (Part 1 of 3) …

( Reading Time – Approximately Four To Six Minutes ).

This is part 1 of 3 blogs on internal heat. Part 1 explains how heat behaves in the body. Part 2 describes symptoms, signs and general ailments caused by excessive heat. And part 3 tells you how this damaging heat was created; and what you can do to reduce it and to bring your body into a more balanced and healthy state.

So let’s begin.

The body likes to be warm and full of energy to function at its best.

However, just like a machine or anything found in nature, if heat builds up excessively in it, then damage is caused.

The easiest way to see the destructive actions of too much heat in the body is to examine what it does in nature. The way heat behaves outside the body is also the way it behaves inside of it.

When we look at heat in nature we see it enlivens things and energizes them.
It gives them power and makes them move faster. In spring and summer it brings animals out of hibernation and it grows flowers and plants. It warms and gives life, light and energy.

But if heat becomes too excessive it can start to burn and dry. Plants will wither. The ground will become barren, hard and even start to crack.

In the body if things become too hot; then this can cause our cells, tissues, hormones, fluids and organs all to begin to suffer damage. Continue reading

The Real Root Causes Of Illness …

( Reading Time – Approximately Two To Three Minutes ).

Eastern Medicine looks at illness and an unhealthy body in a very different way than Western Medicine. In general Eastern medicine will try to establish a bigger overall pattern that is leading to symptoms being expressed in the body, whereas Western Medicine often just looks  at and treats the symptoms in isolation.

The problem with this is that even when it is successful at eliminating symptoms, the underlying weakness or agitation which allowed the illness to manifest, can often just cause a new problem to spring up in a different location. You might fix one problem but the state in the body which caused it has been allowed to remain and fester.

For example, we could take the case of a cancer having been treated by surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. If the patient survives these intense treatments and the cancerous cells have been removed, then this is deemed a success, a “cure” by Western Medicine. From an Eastern perspective you have not addressed the vitally important question of what caused the cancer in the first place. If you do not address the causes of the cancer, then even if you have eradicated the mutated cells, the patient is still left vulnerable to a re-occurrence of it at a future stage in their life. Living In Harmony With Nature …

( Reading Time – Approximately Four To Five Minutes ).

The human being, in its current form Homo Sapiens, has according to most historians been on this planet for about the last 80,000 to 120,000 years. Our bodies have been in roughly the same form all that time.

Because of this they have evolved in a certain fashion and we are stuck in those ways. We cannot break free from them in the space of 10, 50, 100 or even 200 years.

In past times people lived simply; when it became bright, people would get up, hunt, gather foods, and then eat them. When it got dark they would go off to bed and sleep. There wasn’t much else they could do. Obviously they couldn’t stay up and watch television, do shift work, eat meals or anything else throughout the night.

Because of our slow evolution, we are stuck with an internal biological clock that dictates when our bodies and its organs are functioning at their peaks for different tasks. Continue reading

Money Isn’t Everything …

( Reading Time – Approximately One Minute ).

Money …

It can buy a house
But not a home,

It can buy a clock
But not time,

It can buy you a position
But not respect,

It can buy you a bed
But not sleep,

It can buy you a book
But not knowledge,

It can buy you medicine
But not health,

It can buy you blood
But not life,

So you see  … Money isn’t everything

The Art Of Balance …

( Reading Time – Approximately Three To Four Minutes ).

Quite often in the East you will hear of the terms Yin and Yang. Taken literally, Yin means the dark side of the mountain and Yang means the bright side of the mountain. They represent the seemingly opposite states of life which interflow and eventually act to rebalance each other.

In practical terms, for example after a long hot summer which dries out the earth and consumes its nutrients, we need a cool wet winter to nourish the land and bring it back into a healthy state of balance for the next yearly cycle. Or in a person, after being active all day, the body needs to rest at night, to recuperate and restore itself for a fresh start the next day. Continue reading
