The Professor’s Coffee …

( Reading Time – Approximately One To Two Minutes )

A clever tale to think about …

A group of friends, who were all highly established in their careers, got
together to visit their wise old professor. The conversation soon turned
into complaints about stress in their work and social lives.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to his kitchen and returned with a
large pot of it and an assortment of cups. There were porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and even some expensive and exquisite ones.

He suggested they help themselves to some of the hot coffee.

When all his ex-students had a cup of coffee in their hand, the professor said:

“If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving
behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that too is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was the coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and were eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is the coffee; then the jobs, money and position in society are
the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to taste and enjoy the coffee in it.”

Money Isn’t Everything …

( Reading Time – Approximately One Minute ).

Money …

It can buy a house
But not a home,

It can buy a clock
But not time,

It can buy you a position
But not respect,

It can buy you a bed
But not sleep,

It can buy you a book
But not knowledge,

It can buy you medicine
But not health,

It can buy you blood
But not life,

So you see  … Money isn’t everything

A Short Tale Of Love, Wealth And Success …

( Reading Time – Approximately One To Two Minutes ).

A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long grey beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them.

She spoke “I don’t think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please do come in and have something to eat.”

“Is the man of the house home?” they asked.

“No”, she said. “He’s out.”

“Then we cannot come in”, they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. So he said “Go tell them I am home and invite them all to come in!”

The woman went out and asked the men in.

“We do not go into a house together,” they replied.

“Why is that?” she wanted to know.

One of the old men explained: “His name is Wealth,” he said pointing to one of his friends, and then pointing to the other, “He is Success. And I, I am Love.” Then he added, “Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home.”

The woman went in and told her husband what had been said. Her husband was overjoyed. “This is fantastic !!” he said. “Since that is the case, let us invite in Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with money and riches!”

His wife disagreed. “No my dear, why don’t we invite Success?”

Their daughter  was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: “Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!”

“Let us heed our daughter’s advice,” said the husband to his wife. “Go out and invite Love to be our guest.”

So the woman went out and asked the three old men, “Whichever one of you is Love, do please come in and be our guest”

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other two also got up and started to follow him. Surprised by this, the lady asked Wealth and Success, “I only invited Love, Why are you two coming in?”

The old men replied together: “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would have stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever he goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success !!!”

The Banker And The Fisherman …

( Reading Time – Approximately One To Two Minutes ).

I have come across this classic parable many times. I want to share it with anyone who has not read it before. It is well worth taking a minute or two to read such a clever and valuable story …

An investment banker was at the pier of a little coastal village when a small boat with just a single fisherman docked beside him. Inside the small boat were several large and impressive fish.

The banker complimented the fisherman on the quality of these fine fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.

The fisherman replied, “Only a little while.”

The banker was puzzled and inquired, “Why didn’t you stay out longer and catch more fish ?”

To which the fisherman said, “With this I have more than enough to support my family’s needs.”

“But what do you do with the rest of your time ?” asked the banker.

The fisherman said, “Well I sleep late, fish a little, play with my wonderful children, take a nice nap with my wife, stroll into the village each evening and spend time with my family. I have a full and enjoyable life.”

The banker scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing; and with the proceeds, you can buy a bigger boat. Then with the profits from this bigger boat you can buy several boats. Eventually you would have a whole fleet of fishing boats. Then instead of selling your catch to a middleman you could sell directly to the processor, and eventually you can even open your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and the distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to a big town and eventually to a big city where you will run your ever-expanding enterprise.”

The fisherman asked, “But, how long will all this take ?”

The banker said, “Fifteen to twenty years.”

“But what then ?” asked the fisherman.

The banker laughed and said “Well that is the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions from the deal.”

“Millions ? … Then what?”

To which the banker replied, “Then you could retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your children, take a nap with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings and spend time with your family.”
